Issam Sahib residence
Client: Issab Sahib.
Description: Private residence.
Location: Hai Aljammia, Baghdad.
Plot Size: 600 m2.
Status: Finished.
A large residence four stories high the design is dominated by two pitched boxes in the front. The elevation is open and unobstructed. This was possible because the plot is oriented towards the north were the restrictions of avoiding the summer sun's straining heat are much subdued.
The lower floor basement led
to a house 1.8m above ground level which created a
dominating and majestic
structure. The front boxes are made of a steel structure which is suspended from
behind by steel bars.
The interior is centered on an indoor garden which is illuminated by a large pitched skilight. The opening is covered with deformed glass and sunbreakers. These allow the sun to penetrate in the winter and block it in the summer. The walls and roof use styropor insulation.
