Baghdad Olympic Stadium
Client: Yiltash.
Description: Olympic Stadium.
Location: Altadji district, Baghdad.
Size: 80 000 Seats.
Financed by the oil for food programme the project was aworded to a Turkish company, "Yiltash", by the Ministry of Youth. The design was awarded to us under the supervision of the Idrissi Center for design Consultancy, a government agency. The requirements were for a modern up to date roofed stadium capable of housing Olympic competitions. The terraces were to be 65% covered.
The roof is suspended from larg 65m high Concrete/steel pylons. The steel structure which holds the roof is spanned by nonuniform barrel vaults. These are covered with corrugated steel except for the front part which is poly carbonate.
